Today Brynja (an exchange student from Iceland) and me went to visit Antwerp! It's about 30 min by bus from our town, so it's not that far.
W sumie jechałyśmy w ciemno, miałyśmy niby mapę, ale nie znałyśmy miasta ani trochę. Na szczęscie nie trudno było znaleźć 'Królestwo Zakupów' -> ulicę handlową Meir. Jest to taki deptak z ogromną ilością sklepów (o wieele większy i bogatszy w sklepy niż w Poznaniu!)
Actually we didn't know the city at all. We had a map, but still... Fortunately it wasn't that hard to find "The Kingdom of Shopping" -> Meir - the main shopping street in Antwerp.
No więc zaczęłyśmy od małego shoppingu:).
Jeśli chodzi o ceny, to bardzo zalezy co i gdzie kupujesz. Autobusy, metro, pociągi - droższe niż w Polsce. Ciuchy w sieciówkach - ceny bardzo przyzwoite, w większości pokrywające się z Polskimi i zawsze można coś fajnego wyhaczyć!
So we started with a little shopping:).
When it's up to prices, it really depends on what and where you're buying things. Buses, subway, trains - more expensive than in Poland. Clothes in high - street shops - prices are quite the same as in Poland and you can always find something supercalifragelisticaxpialidotious!
Ale czasem tak trudno się oprzeć.. Na szczęście ograniczyłam liczby kasy, którą wzięłam do Antwerpii :D
But sometimes it's veery hard to make your self stop buying things.. Fortunately I didn't take that much money to Antwerp :D

Po shoppingu spotkaliśmy się z 3 uczniami z innego programu, którzy mieszkają w części francuskiej i są w Belgii od stycznia. Pokazali nam trochę Antwerpii i wymieniliśmy się doświadczeniami!
After shopping we met with 3 exchange students from a different exchange program. They live in a french speaking part and stay there from January 2015 till January 2016. They showed us a little bit of Antwerp and we shared experiences!
Na wymieńców, którzy już są dłużej w kraju goszczącym, mówi się 'oldies' (strasi), a my w tym przypadku jesteśmy 'newies' (nowsi) :). I tym sposobem oldies pokazują i kierują newiesami:D
Exchange students, who've been in a host country for a while are called 'oldies', and for now exchange students that came a week ago with AFS program are called 'newies':). And in this way oldies show newies how it works to be an exchange student :D
Antwerpię można zwiedzać i zwiedzać, dziś były to bardziej zakupy niż zwiedzanie ale parę ciekawych rzeczy zobaczyliśmy.
Antwerp is a city, in which you can walk for hours, today it was more shopping than sightseeing, but we've seen some interesting places.
Może na początku opowiem, skąd wg legendy wzięła się nazwa tego miasta (nider. Antwerpen).
At first I'm gonna explain, where from the name of the city came. (nider. Antwerpen)
Legenda o Antigonie (nie mylić z Antygoną :D)
Dawno temu rzeką Skaldą władał olbrzym Antigon. Zbierał wysoki haracz od przepływających statków. Jeśli ktoś nie chciał płacić, obcinał mu dłoń i wrzucał do rzeki. Pewnego dnia spotkał na swej drodze rzymskiego żołnierza Silviusa Brabo. Dzielny wojak zabił potwora, odciął mu dłoń i wrzucił do rzeki. Tak powstała nazwa Hantwerpen, od "hand throwing", czyli "wyrzucania dłoni". Z czasem jednak "h" zanikło i została Antwerpia.
A story about Antigone (don't mix up with the ancient one :D)
A long time ago, river Scheldt was controled by a giant - Antigone. He asked money from people who wanted to pass the bridge over the river Scheldt. When they didn't want to or couldn't pay, he cut off their hand and threw it in the river. One day he met a roman soldier called Silvius Brabo. The brave man killed a giant and throw his hand to the river. And that's how Hantwerpen rised up, from 'hand throwing'. After some years "h" disappeared and now we have a city called Antwerp.
W wielu miejscach Antwerpii można zobaczyć pomniki i pamiątki związane z legendą. No i oczywiście czekoladki i ciasteczka, co by przyciagnąć łakomych turystów.:)
In many places in Antwerp you can see statues and souvenirs connected with this story. And of course chocolates and cookies to attract the greedy tourists.:)

Żeby przejść na drugą stronę rzeki, zobaczyć Antwerpię z trochę dalszej perspektywy i trochę odpocząć, musieliśmy zjechać na dół do tunelu przechodzącego pod rzeką.
To reach the other side of a river to see Antwerp from the other view and just have a little rest we went down through a long tunnel under the river.

Strasznie fajnie było poznac wymieńców z drugiegu końca świata, trochę się wymieniliśmy doświadczeniami i już jesteśmy umówieni do Brukseli!
It was so awesome to meet exchange students from the other edge of the world! We shared some experiences and we already promised to see each other in Brussel!
